Decal application using the hinge method

At The Loyal Brand, we’ve tested various methods for applying decals and stickers, and the hinge method has proven to be the most effective for ensuring a bubble-free and wrinkle-free application. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Clean the Application Surface Before applying the decal, make sure the application surface is clean, dry, and free from any dust or debris. Use rubbing alcohol or a non-ammonia-based cleaner to clean the surface thoroughly.

Step 2: Position the Decal with Tape Using a small piece of masking tape or painter’s tape, position the decal on the surface where you want it to be placed. Make sure the decal is straight and aligned properly.

Step 3: Apply the Hinge Cut a long piece of masking tape or painter’s tape and place it horizontally over the top of the decal, leaving a little bit of tape hanging off each side of the decal. This creates the “hinge” that allows you to lift the decal and make any adjustments before applying it to the surface.

Step 4: Peel the Backing Paper Peel the backing paper away from the decal, being careful not to disturb the decal or the hinge tape.

Step 5: Apply the Decal Using a squeegee or credit card, smooth the decal onto the surface starting from the middle and working your way outwards. Use a back and forth motion to make sure the decal is adhering to the surface evenly.

Step 6: Remove the Hinge Tape Once the decal is applied, remove the hinge tape by pulling it straight up and away from the surface. Be careful not to lift the decal with the tape.

Wet vs Dry Hinge Method: The hinge method can be used for both wet and dry applications. If you’re applying the decal wet, make sure to use a soapy water solution before applying the hinge tape. The soapy water solution will allow you to reposition the decal before it dries in place.

Advantages of the Hinge Method: Allows for a bubble-free and wrinkle-free application Allows you to adjust the placement of the decal before final application Works for both wet and dry applications Disadvantages of the Hinge Method: May take a little longer to apply than other methods Uses more tape than other methods

At The Loyal Brand, we highly recommend using the hinge method for applying decals and stickers. Our customers have seen great results and have found it to be the most effective method for ensuring a flawless application.
